If you had the opportunity to take a glimpse into the future, would you take it? Would you
embrace the chance to satisfy your curiosity about your older self—answering all the questions
that linger in your mind? Questions like: How successful am I? Did my dreams come true? Do I
have children? Who did I marry? How did I die? These inquiries have intrigued humanity for
centuries, possibly since the beginning of time.
Over the last four decades, at least 35 motion pictures have explored the concept of time
travel, telling stories of individuals manipulating time to gain knowledge of the future. From a
golden, clock-spinning box to the legendary 1981 DeLorean DMC-12, these movies have
captivated millions, sparking the imagination with the possibility of glimpsing into the future.
Why do I bring this up? Because the most incredible book ever written—the Holy Bible—acts as
a divine time machine, revealing detailed information about future events. If you’re interested,
let’s embark on a journey into the future to uncover what the Bible says about the End Times,
also known as eschatology. If you enjoy science fiction, where the impossible becomes possible,
let me introduce you to the power of God—the ultimate force that makes the impossible a
reality. Let’s begin.
What Does the Bible Say About the End Times?
Throughout Scripture, God has consistently warned His children about upcoming events. Over
the span of 6,000 years, the Bible contains approximately 2,500 prophecies, with around 500
still awaiting fulfillment. Let’s examine a few of these unfulfilled prophecies to gain a clearer
understanding of what the Bible says about the events that are soon to come.
At least 11 books in the Bible provide insight into End Times events, including Daniel, Ezekiel,
Joel, Malachi, Isaiah, Matthew (24:6-7, 40-41), Mark (13:32), 1 Thessalonians (4:13-18), 1
Timothy (4:1), and 2 Timothy (3:1-5). These books contain firsthand accounts and prophetic
visions of what is to come.
The Bible categorizes End Times events into six major themes: The Removal of Believers, The
Rise of the Antichrist, The Wrath of God and the Tribulation, The Return of Christ and the
Millennial Reign, The Final Judgement and The New Heaven and Earth. Let’s briefly explore.
The Removal of Believers (The Rapture)
What does Scripture say about the future of a current living believer in Jesus Christ? In any
family, whatever the parents possess, the children also inherit. If parents pass away, their
possessions are transferred to their children. Parents instinctively protect their children from
harm, doing whatever is necessary to keep them safe. The same is true for the children of God.
Who are the children of God? They are those who have accepted the incredible gift of eternal
life through Jesus Christ—the salvation made possible by His death and resurrection. Every
believer in Jesus Christ is one who has acknowledged Him as their personal Lord and Savior, is
God’s child, and is commonly referred to as a Christian. As believers, we have received the
inheritance of our Heavenly Father, which includes divine protection from the coming wrath of
the tribulation.
The Bible warns that a man known as the Antichrist will rise to power, bringing war, death,
calamity, poverty, and persecution. This period is known as the seven-year tribulation.
However, one of the promises to Christians is that they will be spared from experiencing this
horrific time through a miraculous event known as the Rapture.
1 Thessalonians 4:16-17 states: “For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout,
with the voice of an archangel, and with the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise
first. Then we who are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to
meet the Lord in the air. And so, we shall always be with the Lord.”
1 Corinthians 15:51-52 further elaborates: “Behold, I tell you a mystery: We shall not all sleep,
but we shall all be changed—in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For
the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed.”
These verses describe an event only an all-powerful God can orchestrate. At a divinely
appointed moment, a heavenly trumpet will sound, and all believers who have died will be
resurrected and gathered in the air. Those Christians who are still alive will experience an
instantaneous transformation, vanishing from the earth and joining the resurrected believers.
This phenomenon is God’s way of protecting His children before the Great Tribulation and His
divine wrath upon an unbelieving world.
There is some debate among theologians regarding the timing of this event—whether it occurs
before, during, or after the tribulation. However, the Bible assures us that God’s people will
ultimately be spared from His wrath. If you want to learn more about this topic, research “The
Rapture of the Church.”
The Rise of the Antichrist
After the Rapture, a powerful world leader, known as the Antichrist, will emerge. He will
initially appear as a charismatic peacemaker, deceiving many into believing he has the answers
to the world's problems. However, halfway through the seven-year tribulation, his true nature
will be revealed. He will demand worship, enforce a global economic system (often associated
with the “mark of the beast” in Revelation 13:16-17), and persecute those who refuse to follow
him. His reign will be marked by chaos, war, and suffering.
The Wrath of God and the Tribulation
During the tribulation, God’s wrath will be poured out on the earth in a series of judgments
described in Revelation. These judgments include catastrophic natural disasters, plagues, and
war. The purpose of these judgments is to call humanity to repentance, but many will harden
their hearts against God (Revelation 16:1-21).
The Return of Christ and the Millennial Reign
At the end of the tribulation, Jesus Christ will return to the earth in power and glory (Revelation
19:11-16). He will defeat the Antichrist and his armies and establish a thousand-year reign of
peace and righteousness known as the Millennial Kingdom. During this time, Satan will be
bound, and the world will experience the perfect rule of Christ.
The Final Judgment and the New Heaven and Earth
After the Millennial Kingdom, Satan will be released for a short time to deceive the nations.
However, he will ultimately be defeated and cast into the lake of fire for eternity (Revelation
20:10). Then, the final judgment will take place. Those whose names are not found in the Book
of Life will be eternally separated from God (Revelation 20:11-15).
Finally, God will create a new heaven and a new earth where righteousness dwells (Revelation
21:1-4). There will be no more death, sorrow, or pain—only eternal joy in the presence of God.
Conclusion
The Bible provides an extraordinary glimpse into the future, revealing events that will impact all
of humanity. While the concept of time travel fascinates many, the Word of God offers the
ultimate prophetic insight. The End Times are not just a fictional story but a reality that will
unfold according to God’s perfect plan.
For believers, these prophecies offer hope and assurance. For those who have yet to accept
Christ, they serve as a warning. Now is the time to seek the Lord and embrace the salvation He
offers. The future is not unknown—it is written in the pages of Scripture.
The question is: Are you ready?
